My Story & Approach
Guided by a belief in the "whole-person" approach, I strive to honor the totality of an individual’s identities, experiences, perspectives, and aspirations. To build our connection, I’d like to share a bit about who I am as a person, professional, and curious learner. Professionally, I bring 20+ years of full-time, progressive experience as a facilitator of learning and development, organizational architect, curiosity champion, strategist, and a trusted thought leader across diverse institutions and non-profits. Through cultivating and sustaining relationships, I have partnered closely with students, faculty, and senior-level executive leaders to advance strategic priorities that strengthen community, foster belonging, and enhance organizational effectiveness.
My doctoral studies in human resources and management ignited a deep passion for organizational and individual talent development, organizational culture and development efforts, and applying systems theories to practice. My perspectives and approach are informed by extensive and varied leadership roles, service, and engagement in professional associations. I am proud of the lasting impact I have had on thousands of learners by creating inclusive, collaborative environments where people thrive and meaningful results come to life.
Beyond my professional identity, I am a daughter, sister, cousin, and friend (by both birth and choice). I am a cheese connoisseur (born and raised in Wisconsin), bookworm, Zumba fan, outdoor explorer, crafter, farmer's market enthusiast, aspiring plant caretaker, amateur photographer, adventurous traveler, and the kind of person who truly stops to smell every flower. For several years, I have practiced a tradition of selecting a "guiding word" for the year, a discernment process that begins the day after Thanksgiving in the United States. To anchor my commitments, I wear an engraved necklace as a daily reminder of my goals. For 2026, I have chosen a guiding mantra: "Believe Boldly. Lead Curiously."
My passion for learning and curiosity has provided me with many amazing opportunities, one of which is the opportunity to partner with the Global Curiosity Institute (GCI). The GCI is on a mission to empower individuals, organizations, and society to unlock their full potential through a relentless pursuit of learning, discovery, and innovation. I am excited to partner with the GCI as a Fellow serving higher education and non-profit organizations in North America. Partnering with Fellows from around the globe who serve(d) in different industries is incredibly inspiring as it takes my curiosity to vast and interesting spaces.
How does curiosity show up for you? Take a few minutes to complete the GCI's free Individual Curiosity Scale Diagnostic and include your email address to get a report with unique insights about curiosity.
Publishing thought pieces with colleagues has been a meaningful way to further my thinking and contribute to bodies of knowledge. Creating original scholarship about the curricular approach to student learning and organizational effectiveness represented two signature experiences along my career journey thus far.
First, my 2016 dissertation, Organizational Perspective On Implementing The Residential Curriculum Approach: An Ethnographic Case Study, was the first published research on the curricular approach to student affairs. Looking to conduct some organizational scanning and goal setting? Download the Organizational Barometer that I created from my dissertation research.
Second, co-authoring the Curricular Approach to Student Affairs book (2020) was a signature professional experience. Getting to share ideas about organizational effectiveness, student learning, and various other topics, while collaborating with wonderful colleagues, was meaningful. In 2025, the Chinese translation of the book was published.
On a related note, it was a professional honor to serve as co-chair for the ACPA - College Student Educator International's 2013 Residential Curriculum Institute and 2023 Institute on the Curricular Approach. I continue to draw on the joys and experiences of serving alongside dedicated mid- and senior-level colleagues to design, implement, and assess a global professional learning community, as I engage and support them in furthering their organization's strategic priorities.
